TAMPA, FL - The Event Development Institute (EDI), in conjunction with Adventure Island, is proud to announce the sixth annual Tampa Bay Kids Triathlon (TBKT), presented by Florida Blue . Set for Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 7:15 a.m., the TBKT offers youth athletes, experienced and first-timers alike, the unique opportunity to swim, bike and run in and around Busch Gardens’® premier water park, Adventure Island.

Additionally, TBKT officials are excited to introduce Florida Blue as the presenting sponsor for the 2018 event.

“Florida Blue is excited to partner with the Event Development Institute to present the Tampa Bay Kids Triathlon,” said David Pizzo, Florida Blue Market President. “Our mission is to help people and communities achieve better help and we cannot think of a better way than to encourage children to embrace healthy lifestyles early and create habits that will keep them active for a lifetime through an event like this!”

Boys and girls ages 6-10 (junior varsity division) and 11-14 (varsity division) are eligible to participate. The first 400 registrations will receive a complimentary ‘Stay and Play’ ticket to Adventure Island®, valid on race day only. All participants will receive a race-day ‘Swag Bag’, including an official Under Armour race shirt, in addition to a finisher’s medal upon completion of the race. The top three male and female finishers in each age group category will earn a trophy along with an additional Adventure Island ‘Stay and Play’ ticket.

The TBKT is also excited to announce that a portion of registration fees will be donated to the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA). Friedreich’s Ataxia is a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuromuscular disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States have Friedreich's Ataxia. Gavin Lambert, a loyal TBKT participant since its inception, battles the disease and was recently honored with the renaming of the finish line to the “Gavin Lambert Finish”. Additional donations to FARA can be made on the registration page.

David’s World Cycle will serve as the official Bike Tech Sponsor for this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. “David's World Cycle is excited to provide technical support for the Tampa Bay Kids Triathlon,” said Ron Stracke of David’s World Cycling. “We encourage all participants to take advantage of the free Safety Inspection, which is a $45 value, before the actual race at any David's World Cycle locations".

The complimentary technician services will also be offered to all participants during packet pick-up and on event day.

“We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with with Adventure Island as we build on the last five years of success hosting one of the nation’s premier youth triathlons,” said Jenna Grooms, Event Manager for the Event Development Institute.  “Each year the event gets bigger and better and we couldn’t be more excited to see our returning athletes, and welcome all of our new athletes to the event as well.”
